We just got nailed with a very bad (or good depending on how you look at it) snow storm here in the Northeast this past weekend. Here in the southern New Jersey where I live we got 23 inches of snow in just a little over 1 day. I realize compared to some areas of the country and the world that this is nothing but when we are used to getting about 2-5 inches of snow per year, this was a significant snowfall. I’m one of the people that look at it as a good thing, I love to go out and photograph snowy landscapes when we get any snow around here. It completely transforms the areas that I’m used to seeing without snow on them. I have just recently moved and I was lucky enough to find out, after the move, that there is a nice little patch of woods that has a small stream leading to a small pond right behind my condo. There isn’t much area there and it’s completely surrounded by housing. The morning after the snow I went out around 8am and walked around for about 2 hours taking advantage of the morning light to help create shadows and contours in the snow. I didn’t see another set of footprints where I went so I had plenty of untouched snowscapes to point the camera at. That same evening I went back out again to catch the evening light and I was amazed to see that the only set of footprints in the snow were the ones I had left that morning. Now I realize it’s a small area but it was so beautiful to walk through and take in the gorgeous scenery, yet not one other person had set foot there all day long. It always amazes me to think that there is so much beauty right in our back yards and so many people never take the time to see it. I guess the only good thing about that is I kinda had the place to myself, which was nice. Anyway here are a few of my favorite pics from my outings that day and it goes along with this weeks Nature’s Colors Series: White.
On behalf of all the photographers here at Nature’s Domain we wish everybody a wonderful holiday season, and hope to have you visit us in the new year.

Wow Ray these shots are PHENOMENAL!! We were taken by the snow storm as well, we have a new record for Oklahoma of 14.1 inches. We still have snow on the ground since before Christmas, today’s high is only 24, not out of the deep freeze yet. I love your snow shots. It looks like a Currier and Ives landscape!! I am ready for spring to come and this snow to melt. I just worry about the run off and the floods that some areas will see from all this snow. Your shots are so detailed and crisp!! You do great work! I will get the camera’s out when it starts to thaw!! Again gorgeous shots!!
Thanks so much LInda and we all look forward to seeing more of your flower photos when it warms up. Hang in there it will come soon.
